The 9/11 "Band Wagon"

I get uncomfortable discussing our current political situation, it means I'm a part of it. Lately something's been chipping away at that attitude. Maybe it's the universe, maybe God, maybe the law of averages has been catching up with me. It takes a lot to stir me from my political apathy. As a rule, I make grossly ignorant and inflammatory statements to outrage the pseudo-intellectuals I hang out with on occasion.

Well, something out there said "fuck that". Ten years after 9/11, it's a time when everyone is tired of hearing about it. We still have the spare changers, the conspiracy theorists, the capitalists still banking off of it. And then there's the folks who just want to move on. I'll say it if no one else will. We're all in the ten year anniversary together. A man makes a bold move when he examines how he feels about a situation and expresses what he feels, rather than what he wants others to feel.

The former is true for "World Trade" the August free download by Cancer Killing Gemini you can still listen to it for free here. On September 11, 2011, it wasn't the commercials, and facebook posts that made me think about what I'd been doing on the same day ten years ago. In fact, I wanted to distract myself from the whole thing and clicked on the link that #whatshisface sent me. After seeing that it was "a song about 9/11" I told my laptop to "fuck off" got on my bike and rode around for a bit. I've never wanted to remember. For the past ten years I've been seeing the slogan "Never Forget" and I just wish I could forget.

Tonight I took the time to listen to "World Trade". I expected the usual, "never forget" "god bless" "yadda yadda". What I got was a retrospective on someone elses ten years. Longing to see cousin home for the holidays or just any day to hold his son. Regret at what we as a nation, and as individuals, have done over the last decade. What I heard, but wasn't said was hope that the next ten years will be better. And this is something that I hope you'll take from it. Take a listen, shake the dust off, we can do this.

Catch Cancer Killing Gemini on The Boston Local Music Show tomorrow on UNregular Radio at 12:00PM. They are scheduled to go live at 2:00PM.

In addendum: I could go on all day about these cats and their great sound, musicianship, style etc. But really, you're not going to listen to me, listen to the music, form you're own opinion from that. Even if the music isn't your style, the writing is human enough for all of us. xoxo The Management 9/15/2011
